ABOUT ELLEN

Ellen Naylor
CEO of Business Intelligence Source
Ellen is one of America’s pioneers in competitive intelligence and Win/Loss analysis with over 40 years of experience across many industries. Ellen initiated Bell Atlantic’s (Verizon’s) competitive intelligence (CI) program for enterprise marketing in 1985.
Ellen founded Business Intelligence Source, a CI consultancy in 1993. She consistently helps clients beat the competition and make smarter tactical and strategic decisions.
Clients tell Ellen that conversation is her superpower. She enjoys listening to people’s stories which they readily share with her.
She skillfully engages people during video chats, phone and in-person conversations. Ellen has always been successful at uncovering hard to find information that provides insight for her clients.
Ellen shows you how to get people to open up to you and share valuable information in Loosen Their Lips. If you want to find out why you’re winning and losing business—and retain more, check out her award-winning book, Win/Loss Analysis: How to Capture and Keep the Business You Want.
Ellen has delivered hundreds of competitive intelligence presentations, workshops and webinars for clients as well as at conferences and universities globally. Her most popular subjects are Elicitation and Win/Loss Analysis.
Earning her BA in international studies from the University of Notre Dame, in the second class of graduating women, and her MBA at the Darden Graduate School of Business, Ellen understands business. TESTIMONIALS

Pracademic Educator, Certified Researcher, Trusted Capacity Builder Guiding Boards and Leaders in Applied Analytics, Intelligence, Issues, and Strategy | Advocate, Benefactor, Caregiver | 17x Book Author
I have known Ellen for the best part of two decades, but in recent years, I have had the distinct pleasure and fortunate opportunity to work beside her as part of the elected executive team of the Council of Competitive Intelligence Fellows (aka, The Council). I have long known about Ellen's mastery of CI methods like Win/Loss analysis — there are few people on the planet that can deliver the kind of results using that method that Ellen has managed to accomplish for her clients and employers over a long period of time. Her book on the topic is like icing on the cake, in that she makes her deep knowledge easily available to others to grasp and apply. That is not easy feat, but Ellen masters it about as easily as she masters most of her competitive intelligence practices.
But those skills and capabilities are not what makes Ellen so special. That aspect comes out of her genuine concern for helping others, a deep sense of caring about what is truly important, and a desire to leave the people and places she interacts with better for her having been there. In my view, that is what a Fellow in any profession should truly demonstrate, and Ellen is a true professional. I wish there were more people like Ellen out there in my field, actually — in most any field; but to be honest, she is one of a kind, and that kind is golden! I have every confidence you will find that to be true in your interactions with her, as well. (Craig worked with Ellen on the same team.)
Vice President, Marketing
I wholeheartedly recommend Ellen Naylor for her competitive intelligence skills and win/loss analysis expertise. Again and again, Ellen has found ways to successfully engage our customers and prospects in candid dialog about their experience with our technology—and in the fast-paced world of digital marketing, connecting with decision makers is no small feat! Ellen drives projects from conception through to completion and provides actionable information that we’ve used to affect measurable sales improvements.

Chief Marketing Officer at LHH
I have known Ellen for over 30 years. She began as a service provider to me at Delmarva Power and has grown into a friend and mentor. Ellen is an expert at competitive intelligence, building networks and focusing on providing intelligence to and gathering intelligence from the sales force. Ellen willingly and graciously shares her knowledge and her experience. I have learned much from her over the years. I wholeheartedly recommend her. (Melanie hired Ellen as a Business Consultant in 1995 and has hired her more than once.)

Manager, Competitive Intelligence
Ellen was always professional and patient in an industry and project that required multiple “sign-offs” and additional insights. In spite of the hardship of the matrixed communication of my organization she had no issue staying focused, especially when there was no way I could be there to support the management, as much as I believed I needed to make it successful. But this is where Ellen truly shone. After learning the key players and the “lay of the land” she was able to proactively achieve success in the project by getting to the stakeholders and just routing back with me on an as needed basis. She was invaluable and brought valuable insights to senior leadership in the short term interviews she conducted along with the final recommendation report. (Sally hired Ellen as a Consultant when she was a Manager of Competitive Intelligence at TXU Energy.)

DRTV and Competitive Intelligence Expert
Ellen and I have worked on several competitive intelligence projects together. I’ve always been impressed with her knowledge, professionalism and the wealth of experience she brings to the table, to say nothing about the quality of her work.
In addition, while I was running the Minnesota SCIP Chapter, I’ve worked with over 3 dozen competitive intelligence speakers over the years and one of our best (and most popular speakers) was Ellen Naylor. Ellen has a wealth of valuable and entertaining competitive intelligence war stories she’s willing to share with her audience, stories you won’t hear from anyone else. Stories that can improve your company’s bottom line. If you’re looking for a great competitive intelligence speaker, you can’t go wrong with Ellen!
